A woman arrested for mugging on Friday was taken back into police custody early the next morning for violating house arrest terms.
On Friday, the 39-year-old woman was arrested along with a 28-year-old man at around 10:00 am following three mugging incidents in Male’ City, and were given five days of detention.
The woman was transferred to house arrest since she was looking after a child.
She was taken into custody again at 3:00am on Saturday after police found her outside with a man.
Residents of Male’ have been reporting on social media of increased cases of mugging since the fasting month of Ramadan began.
Some have reportedly been forced to withdraw cash from ATMs at knifepoint, and recently a group mugged a woman inside a guesthouse.
