Blogger Yameen Rasheed’s murder was financed and planned out well in advance, says his family.
In a statement released after police revealed the identities of three suspects, the family said they do not believe that the suspects are the only ones involved in the murder.
The asked that the police also to reveal the motive of the suspects, since it is not clear.
In the statement, the family noted that the police failed to follow up on requests to investigate the repeated death threats on Yameen since 2010.
Since police have claimed to have evidence of the individuals responsible for the murder, the family asked that their information be released to the public, as crimes like this can only be prevented when the motives are revealed and those guilty are brought to justice.
On Sunday night, police revealed the identities of three people who were "actively involved" in the murder. They are Ismail Rasheed (25), Ismail Haisham Rasheed (21), and Ahmed Zihan Ismail (22).
All three are from Male’ and have criminal records, police said.
While seven suspects were arrested, the identities of the other four remains unknown.
Rasheed, a 29-year-old from Addu City’s Feydhoo, who poked fun at the nation's politicians on his blog The Daily Panic, was found in the stairwell of his apartment building with multiple stab wounds to his neck and chest on April 23, and died shortly after being taken to hospital.
