A case regarding Ahmed Sofwan, an associate of fomer President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, has been sent for prosecution.
Police said Sofwan’s case was forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office after he failed to appear at the station within the deadline.
Police said Sofwan, along with Gayoom’s son Faris Maumoon, are being investigated regarding alleged bribery of parliamentarians ahead of the vote to oust Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Maseeh.
Sofwan was twice asked to appear at the police station, with no response from him, police said.
Police service has now requested Immigration to cancel his passport, and requested Interpol’s help for his search.
Sofwan previously worked with Gayoom as his head of security.
Home ministry earlier released a statement saying that Sofwan is a fugitive who fled the country with the help of Gayoom and his family.
