31 applicants have applied for the judges’ positions at the superior courts.
Judicial Service Commission (JSC) said the due date to apply for the posts announced at the Criminal Court and Civil Court ended at September 10.
JSC has decided to appoint four judges to the Criminal Court and two judges to the Civil Court.
The criteria for the applicants specify that they must have the first degree in Shariah Law and Islamic Shariah and should be at least 25 years of age. They should also have minimum two years’ experience as a judge or lawyer.
Judges at the Criminal Court receive a basic salary and benefits totaling more than MVR 48,000; Judges at the Civil Court receive more than MVR 46,000.
In addition to this, they also receive phone allowances and medical insurance, after being voted on at the parliament.
