A diving school located on the island of AA. Rasdhoo was burned to the ground in the early hours of Wednesday incurring damages amounting to MVR 1.5 million.
Owner of the diving school named “Diving Scuba”, Abdulla Nishad, told VNews that the incident occurred at around 2:30 and the place has been completely burnt. He said that damages amount to MVR 1.5 million.
He said although what caused the fire is not clear yet, it was likely caused by an electrical short circuit.
Police and residents who worked together to put out the fire faced difficulties due to oxygen gas cylinders inside the school. By the time the fire was put out at around 3:30, the entire place was burned beyond repair. Nishad said the school was insured.
A similar fire incident occurred in in the island in February this year as well. A fire incident at a dive centre left the building and two adjacent buildings damaged beyond use. The fire was reportedly caused by an electrical short circuit.
