Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Maldives at the invitation of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
The Indian PM’s Office has also confirmed the visit.
India’s PM decided to visit Maldives after meeting with foreign minister Dr. Mohamed Asim, who is currently visiting India as a special envoy of President Yameen.
Upon PM Modi’s acceptance to visit Maldives, foreign minister expressed gratitude on behalf of the Maldivian government and assured that he would be warmly welcomed in the country.
Foreign minister also stated that during the meeting, PM Modi assured that he would work to further strengthen the close relationship between the two countries.
Foreign minister also met India’s Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and held discussions regarding strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
