Lawyer of detained Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, Hisaan Hussain, has expressed concern about the poor treatment he is being subjected to in Dhoonidhoo detention centre.
In a tweet on Monday, Hisaan said that Saeed is being held in a small, foul-smelling cell that has no fan.
She said that no one should be subjected such “degrading and inhumane treatment”.
Saeed is being accused of accepting bribes to deliver biased verdicts, conspiring to overthrow the government and deliberately obstructing the criminal justice system.
Police claim that they have evidence to back the accusations.
Security forces stormed the Supreme Court on February 5 and arrested Saeed along with Justice Ali Hameed. Saeed’s lawyer said that he was dragged on the floor and into the vehicle by security forces when he was arrested.
Following their arrest, judicial watchdog suspended them.
