Thimarafushi MP Mohamed Musthafa says he was summoned to the police station on allegations of conspiring a coup to overthrow the current government.
Musthafa said this in an interview with the media, after exiting the police station. The MP walked into the police station at 2 p.m. with his lawyer Mahfooz Saeed.
According to Mahfooz Saeed, Musthafa was summoned to the police in connection with the investigation launched following an interview he gave to Raajje TV while speaking on its “Mi Raees” program on July 28, 2017. The police also sought to get Musthafa’s voice sample, however it can only be attained through a court order, Mahfooz said.
While Musthafa has been sent summons to be present at the police station on Tuesday night as well, the lawmaker described the repeated summons as a tactic to instil fear, and said it would not work, no matter how many times he is summoned.
Earlier also he had received notices to appear before the police for questioning, but the notices were later cancelled.
