Jumhooree Party (JP) says they have not communicated with the President’s Office since the beginning of this year.
Speaking at a press conference held at M. Kunooz on Monday, JP’s Spokesperson Ali Solih said since the beginning of 2018, the party had not communicated with the President’s Office on any matter in any way, and had not even sent them a letter.
Ali Solih condemned the news published on the President’s Office website regarding JP, stating that they were all lies.
“JP had not communicated with the President’s Office in any way or form since the beginning of this year. Not even through a letter, hence it is lie by the government. The press statement written in English included this information, it was not written in the Dhivehi press statement”, Ali Solih said.
He said the government’s intention is to show the international diplomats that JP is working with the government.
Expressing concern over the news spread by the government, Ali Solih said JP had not stopped working with the opposition parties, and reaffirmed that their leaders’ intention would not change.
He also said that JP called the President’s Office and asked them to change the press statement. However they had no intention to change it, JP’s Spokesperson said.
Ali Solih said the government is misleading the people at every turn, and called on them to stop doing these kinds of things. He also repeatedly called the government to erase the false information stated on their press statement.
“In view of the changing political landscape, specifically after the announcement of the Jumhooree Party, the Government of Maldives renews the invitation sent to all political parties, calling for constructive dialogue in view of the existing situation of the country. The Government reaffirms its commitment to engage in productive discussions due to the recent changes in the political scenario in Maldives as well as the emphasis put on discussions by foreign parties”, the government’s press statement read.
While JP’s name was not mentioned in the Dhivehi press statement, it was mentioned in the English statement published on the President’s Office website.
