Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim said the democratic process in the Maldives have been hijacked by the military.
In a tweet on Monday, Qasim said the country needs the immediate help of UN to restore judicial and parliamentary authority.
Qasim said the detention of Justices, threats faced by other judges and the brutality against parliament members show that the rule of law and order has collapsed in the country.
Qasim said this after security forces prevented some MPs from entering the parliament for Monday’s extraordinary sitting.
Qasim had previously also stated that the Maldives needs the help of organizations such as UN. However, he does not support foreign military to come to the Maldives, Qasim said.
