Three women had received the Rehendhi Award, which is given in recognition of exceptional achievements and services of women at a national level, this year.
The award was conferred to Aminath Waheedha, H. Maahaa, Fathmath Nashwa, Seaside, Lh. Naifaru, and Zoona Naseem, Lucky Corner, N. Kudafari.
Aminath Waheedha is the Director of Blood Services at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Fathmath Nashwa is the Inspector of Police at Maldives Police Service, and Zoona Naseem has been serving as a diving instructor for 23 years.
The Rehendhi Award was presented to the winners by Vice President Abdulla Jihad at a special ceremony held at Dharubaaruge on Thursday.
Speaking at the ceremony, Abdulla Jihad said all three women had contributed immensely to the society in their fields for a long period and continues to provide their invaluable services. Abdulla Jihad further said he hopes the award would serve as an encouragement to continue on this path steadfastly.
Rehendhi awards are conferred to exceptional women in order to recognize their contribution to the society, to encourage women, to increase female participation in the society and their relevant fields and to mark their successes.
With the initiation of Rehendhi Awards in 2014, the government had so far conferred this prestigious award to 18 individuals from various fields.
