Younger brother of former president Mohamed Nasheed, Nazim Abdul Sattar, has been released from police custody.
Nazim, who is a lawyer, was arrested on Saturday night.
He said that he was arrested while on his way home after a remand hearing at the Criminal Court.
Nazim said that he was arrested for allegedly obstructing police duty. When asked what he did that resulted in the accusation, Nazim told VNews that he stepped in front of a parked police vehicle without knowing that the vehicle was about to leave, which police interpreted as obstruction.
It should be noted that Nazim has been representing some of those arrested under the ongoing state of emergency.
He has been visiting the detention centre in Dhoonidhoo and sharing with the media what he has been witnessing during the visits. He has also been sharing messages from some of the political detainees on social media.
