Shahidha Ali’s husband, who was arrested in relation to her death, has been remanded for 15 days.
Shahidha was found hanged in the bathroom of her house in HDh. Nolhivaram on the morning of March 2.
Shahidha’s husband, Aboobakuru Ibrahim (61), was arrested around 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
Police media officer said he was given a 15-day remand period when produced in Kulhudhuffushi court yesterday.
While Shahidha’s body was sent to India’s Trivandrum for a postmortem due to the suspicions surrounding her death on March 6, police had not revealed any information regarding the postmortem report. She was later brought back and buried in Nolhivaram.
Shahidha’s husband was the first one to find her hanged inside the bathroom of her residence on March 2. Sources cited her husband saying that Shahidha was asleep when he left for the early morning prayer. When he returned from the mosque located opposite to their house, he found Shahidha hanging.
While the case is currently under police investigation, the family had raised questions whether it was a suicide. They pointed out the height of the wooden beam to which the rope was tied, and also the knot that was tied on the rope.
While some neighbors had stated that Shahidha was a victim of domestic violence, she had reportedly been living with depression for the past eight months. Last December she went missing and was later found unconscious in the forest.
