Maafannu West MP Mohamed Falaah said President Abdulla Yameen is, day by day, enslaving the people of the country.
Speaking at the opposition rally at Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s main campaign site on Friday, Falaah said the people of the country would not receive the safety that was denied to former presidents and judges of the country.
While these heads were unlawfully arrested and detained, the same is being done to the people of the country; they are being enslaved and increasingly oppressed, he said.
Falaah said all those who called out and stood up against the oppression and theft in the country have been harmed. The people would not continue to witness this idly, he said.
Noting that President Yameen has to take responsibility for the USD 80 million loss suffered by Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Falaah said the people do not want buildings that are brought in the name of development.
“While the people are being harmed, the commissions tasked to safeguard them by the Constitution are nowhere to be seen. We witness these commissions staying mum while inmates at prisons suffer cruelty at the hands of these people. This is unacceptable”, Falaah said.
Falaah said it is questionable whether the presidential elections will be held this year, and if held, President Yameen will suffer a humiliating defeat.
Pointing out that President Yameen never had the support of the people, Falaah said he came to power due to former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim’s support.
Falaah also said that President Yameen would not be able to acquire even 25 percent of the presidential votes in the upcoming election.
