Jumhooree Party (JP)’s Secretary General Ahmed Sameer said another May Day is needed to put an end to the government’s oppression, due to which many have lost their lives.
Speaking at the opposition rally held at M. Kunooz on Friday night, Sameer said the May Day protest in 2015 was held to bring an end to an oppressive ruler’s reign. The security forces going against the people on that day only served to increase the government’s oppression towards its people. However this oppression will soon end, Sameer said.
Sameer said the government’s tyranny is at its peak, which necessitates another May Day. Noting that many have been imprisoned and harmed by the government, Sameer said many have died and others have been forced to leave the country and seek refuge elsewhere.
“Many have left this world due to the oppression. May Day protestor Abdulla Rasheed died due to this tyranny. If an independent investigation is carried out on his case, President Abdulla Yameen would be behind bars”, Sameer said.
Sameer said that as long as the institutions are being influenced not to investigate President Yameen’s involvement in theft allegations, they will be labeled as being involved in theft.
Sameer also called on the President to allow an independent investigation and to prove that he is innocent of these allegations.
