Maldives Islamic Ministry has officially announced Wednesday as the first day of Ramadan for 2018.
The announcement was made after the ceremony held to announce the crescent sighting at the Islamic Centre on Tuesday night.
Speaking at the ceremony, the ministry’s deputy Ibrahim Ahmed advised all to increase in worship during the auspicious month.
The ministry’s Islamic calendar also marks Wednesday, May 16 as the first of Ramadan.
Since Wednesday is the first of Ramadan, today is Shaban 29, 1439 in the Hijri calendar.
