A trial hearing on the obstruction of justice charge against former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has been scheduled for Tuesday.
The preliminary hearing on the charge is set to take place at the Criminal Court at 11:00 a.m.
The State also pressed obstruction of justice charge on both Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed. However their trial hearings have not been scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
Gayoom’s recent trial hearings had to be cancelled due to his ill health the past two weeks.
Although a trial hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, Gayoom’s legal team had stated that his health has not improved.
Gayoom’s was brought to Male’ and consulted to doctors in both Vision Opticals and ADK Hospital after his health worsened during this month.
According to his family, Gayoom suffers from Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) – dizzy spells, due to which he experiences a lot of difficulties.
The family had beseeched the authorities to transfer Gayoom home, even if for the month of Ramadan, as his health had taken a turn for the worst. However, none of the authorities had paid heed to the request so far.
