With the end of term 1, schools have been closed for the first semester break on Thursday.
The first semester began on January 14 and consisted of 98 study days.
The second semester is scheduled to begin on June 18 and will consist of 105 study days, while the second semester’s mid-term break period will be from August 19 to 23.
When the second term begins, all the government schools will be digitized and students would be given tablets.
While Maldives is working to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, under the inclusive and equitable quality education goal, UN member countries are to ensure that all children have access to free preschool education by 2030.
In November 2016, education minister Dr. Aishath Shiham said that Maldives is the first South Asian country to provide free education to preschoolers.
