Former Attorney General Husnu Suood said in an opposition government, the Anti-Terrorism Act will be nullified within the first 90 days.
The famous lawyer said this in a tweet on Monday.
Suood said the Act would be nullified in the first 90 days in their government.
Suood said the Constitution is enough and that the Act is only being used as a political weapon and is not being used for actual acts of terrorism.
Many opposition political figures in the country had been detained, convicted and imprisoned under the Anti-Terrorism Act which was brought into existence by the current government.
Many of them were charged with terrorism including, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, former President Mohamed Nasheed, former Vice-President Ahmed Adeeb, Adhaalath Party leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla and many other political leaders.
Nasheed, Adeeb, Sheikh Imran, and former defence minister Colonel Mohamed Nazim were convicted of terrorism and are currently serving lengthy prison sentences.
