An expatriate who was burned in an explosion on an oil boat at R. Ungoofaaru harbor has been brought to Male’ for further treatment.
While two people were injured in the incident, the expatriate suffered severe burns in both hands and legs.
According to Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital, the expatriate sustained the worst injuries, having 60 percent of his body burnt.
The other victim, a local, was not severely injured in the incident, Ungoofaaru Hospital said.
The Sri Lankan national is currently being treated at state-run Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
A source from Ungoofaaru said that the explosion occurred while they were attempting to shut off the fuel pump.
