Jumhooree Party (JP) said it changed its flag and logo because there was no other way to move forward politically.
Speaking about the decision, JP’s secretary general Ahmed Sameer said they were unable to legally solve the issue, after Elections Commission prohibited the party from using its logo and flag.
Sameer said the party's leadership and members cannot accept the party to hold its third national congress while the party is in this state, hence some changes were brought to the party logo and flag, which was passed by the national steering committee, he said.
Sameer said they submitted the changes to EC and sought their advice as there is no other way to move forward politically.
EC has granted the party permission to use the new logo and flag, and it would be publicly revealed during the national congress, he said.
Sameer said the party’s long time logo was beloved to members and supporters, hence it was not easy to bring changes to it. However, as the party plays a key role in the political arena in the country, it chose a path which would ensure that it could continue its work to realize the hopes of the people.
“This is not easy. Our logo and flag were loved and respected by many, however this is the only way to move forward, so it had to be done”, Sameer said.
Sameer said although some people tried to stop JP, it cannot be done and the party will remain steadfast in crossing each and every hurdle that is thrown its way.
